Effects of Stress
What happens when we are feeling stress?
When a stress response is activated within the body, the bodies natural intelligence is focused on moving the body out of the perceived stressful situation in order to protect your well-being. A lot of the time these perceived threats to our well-being are actually not real threats to our safety or survival. It’s more than likely it’s a learnt response from a situation which may have caused you stress in the past or could even be a way in which you a thinking, feeling and acting which is signaling to your body there is an external threat to your well-being. The body only responds and activates the necessary responses based upon how we are thinking and feeling.
We may even be in a peaceful environment out in nature and if we are thinking of something which makes us feel stressed, our body will activate a stress response. That’s why becoming conscious that you are feeling a stress response is actually the first step to breaking free from stress. A lot of the time we remain stressed unnecessarily because we are unsconsious of how our body is being affected by the way we are reacting to external situations within our life (regradless if the situation is happening now, in the past or in the future).
How does being stressed affect us?
Feeling stress and using the hormones of stress in a constructive way in your life can actually help you. Stress is a clear signal from your body to do something in order to protect your well-being, safety or even just your happiness in life. We can then use these stress hormones to active us into doing something to change our situation or even our way of thinking and feeling about the situation so the body can get back into a healthy and safe feeling state again.
Stress really only becomes a problem when we are either unsconscious to it or we ignore it and we keep within a stressed state for too long.
If you are consistently stressed your ability to digest foods, your immune response, your hormonal systems, your cardiovascular system and even your natural cohesive brain function becomes comprised. In the long term your body will start to breakdown, store fat, waste away muscle, become more susceptible to all different types of illnesses and aliments and make you feel lousy!
Habitual stressful ways of reacting to situations will also cause you to unconsciously scanning for false threats to your well-being and survival. Being a state-of-survival leads to a lot of unnecessary agitation and anxiousness and can make you and those around you suffer for no real reason at all.
Have you ever noticed how much better everything feels when you are in a relaxed, clam state? Notice how those seemingly impossible situations aren’t so bad after all and those people around you getting on your nerves are actually alright to be around or even quite nice to have around.
So really if you are feeling stress within you this is good. When you can feel you are getting stressed or are stressed this gives you opportuntiy to change something you are doing so you can feel at ease and happy again.
